Episode 122: Time-Lapse Interview with "Anonymous" (Andy), the Pastor of a Large Church Who Suddenly Realized, After Almost 25 Years of Pastoring, He Was No Longer Fine. This Interview Takes Place As His Only Sabbatical to Date Was Commencing.
This is, hands down, the "noisiest" interview I have ever conducted. It took me 7 hours to edit out the majority of the nervous taps, fidgeting, struggling for words, etc. that, to me, showcase the long-term impacts of sustained hypervigilance in any career or life. While I devoted great effort to editing out the majority of this noise, I also devoted great care to not completely erase it, for this "noise" demonstrates the tremendously destructive impact upon a man who, for whatever reason, maintains a state of sustained hypervigilance for far too many years without giving his mind, body, and spirit a sustained rest.
This is the first part of a two-part interview. This first interview takes place as this pastor is roughly a month into a 90-day sabbatical, trying to assess the damage to his mind, body, and spirit, after almost 20 years of caring for others far more than caring for himself.
Part two of this time-lapse will be next, an interview 9 months after the first, intended to afford the listener some reflection on how a lengthy sabbatical helped this pastor to start identifying the road to his own healing. The contrast between the two interviews is as stark as it is insightful to anyone who lives a life of sustained hypervigilance.
