Episode 123: Rural Regeneration Grants – A Current Affair

This week Breifne Earley is joined by Cllr Felim Gurn and Mairin Martin of the Ballinamore Community Council to discuss their delight at their respective regions of Manorhamilton and Ballinamore receiving a total of €3.3m in government funding.
The St. Felim’s Junction Project in Ballinamore has been a priority for the community council over the last number of years with an Art School, Digital Hub and youth club resources all part of the overall plan for the new facility at the site of the old narrow gauge railway.
The project got the green light with the awarding of this grant last Wednesday. Mairin Martin reminds us about the details of the project and what people in the Ballinamore area can hope to gain from this very initiative.
At the same time Manorhamilton were awarded a sum to help with the development of the approach to the north Leitrim town, the town square, a new car park and the development of access to a new 13 acre industrial development facility which is planned to encourage more investment in the area.
Felim Gurn, a business owner and a local representative in the town speaks to Breifne about how important continued investment in the county is and how it will take a team effort from the government, the county council, local business and the general population.
He spoke about the recent increase in Local Property Tax and how commercial rates will be under the microscope this week in the council budget discussions.
