Joel Sinclair joined us in the studio to share his testimony with us! Joel and his wife Rebeccah serve a lot here at Desert Springs, you've probably seen their entire family serving on the Welcome Team together. Joel begins his story by sharing about his life growing up in small town Indiana. His family attended church, but Joel struggled to fully commit his life to Christ. He believed in God but was not walking in that way describing that many around him probably would not have known that he was a Christian. There was a roughly 10-year period that he didn't really have anything to do with faith related things. Joel reflects on the fact that he was never given any concrete reasons to believe in Jesus or the Bible, it was just something that people around him did. He ended up serving in the Marines and during a deployment in Iraq he began to think more seriously about his faith and made the decision to start following Jesus. It was also during this time that he met his wife Rebeccah who was also serving in the Marines. Joel and Rebeccah ended up moving to Arizona and shortly after that Joel was medically retired from the Marines somewhat suddenly. Though it was a difficult shift in his life the Lord used it to create space for Joel to begin walking down a new path. While attending Desert Springs Joel took an apologetics class and this awakened a passion in him for understanding, articulating, defending and teaching the faith. Before he knew it Joel was pursuing degrees in this area and even working in full-time ministry. He shares many testimonies within this story on how the Lord provided for this unexpected path He had him on. We're thankful for Joel's example in being faithful to follow what God has next.
