In today’s episode we offer you our guide to OUR best Bible study practices, as well as offering you our list of favorite Bible study tools and resources. We all understand that studying the Bible is important. But what is the best way to jump in? Here are five types of studies you may want to consider, as well as some Bible study tools and resources we highly recommend! 

5 Types of Bible Study

1. Topical Studies

A topical study is a study of topics. You begin with a topic and find every reference that addresses that theme.

Examples of Topical Bible Studies:

• “A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place” - Beth Moore - a study on the Tabernacle
• Priscilla Shirer “Discerning the Voice of God” - a study of the Holy Spirit
• Priscilla Shirer “Armor of God”

2. Character Studies

A character study is a study of a person (or place) in Scripture. 

Examples of Character Bible Studies:

• “A Heart Like His” by Beth Moore - a study of David
• “To Live Is Christ” by Beth Moore - a study of the life of Paul

3. One-Year Bibles

Chronological reading plans have become my favorite! A chronological study is where you study through the Bible chronologically – ie: in the order events took place, not necessarily how it was written. There is tremendous value in reading and studying the Bible through chronologically. It allows you to discover new insights and make connections between passages and books that can often be overlooked.
 

Want to jump in and don’t know where to start? Here are some options:

• The Bible App: Study Plan called “The One Year Chronological Bible”
• IntoThyWord.org - Weekly schedule. IntoThyWord has created a great downloadable pdf that walks you through what you should read each week.
• The Bible in a Year - has created a chronological list of verses to read based on whatever date you want to start.
• BibleGateway.com has a condensed 61 day chronological reading plan that covers all the key stories in Scripture in order to get a quick overview of God’s plan from Genesis to Revelation.

4. Books of the Bible

A book study is one of my favorites, and what I recommend the most. Context is critical when it comes to Bible study and working through a book systematically helps you understand its context. Studying a book is simply walking verse-by-verse (or paragraph-by-paragraph) through the book in order to understand what the author was saying. 

5. Word 

BlueLetterBible.org is a great free resource that allows you to quickly study a word, its meaning, and where else the word is found.

Group Bible Studies:

• Bible Study Fellowship - BSF - look for your local chapter and get some solid Bible teaching
• Precepts - based on Kay Arthur’s teachings through an inductive study approach.

Inductive Bible Study:

Inductive Bible study is a method of studying the Bible that emphasizes careful observation, interpretation, and application of a specific passage to understand its meaning and relevance to one's life. It involves actively engaging with the text, asking questions, and drawing conclusions based on the text itself, rather than relying on pre-conceived ideas or interpretations.
