Alongside the movement for social justice in the United States has been a growing campaign for economic justice aimed at building and supporting Black-owned businesses. The purpose of today’s episode is to celebrate and shine the spotlight on one Black-owned business. We interview Jeannine A. Cook, a writer, educator, and artist who recently opened Harriett’s Bookshop in Philly’s Fishtown. We begin the episode by learning more about Jeannine’s background (43:15) and her recently released book, Conversations with Harriett (44:44). We also have a conversation about the recent attention given to Harriet Tubman’s life and legacy (47:25) as well as myths and misconceptions about Harriet Tubman (49:10).
