It’s time to get lazy with your favourite Bird Boys! This week, we keep it low-key and update everyone on what we’ve been watching, playing, and listening to. Firstly, though, we send out a message of respect for the late, great Akira Toriyama, mangaka and creator of “Dragon Ball”. A man who influenced a huge portion of millennials and helped popularize anime in North America. Pour one out for a real one. We then turn to Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part One” since we both watched it in preparation for the sequel. We talk about the “Dune” franchise and books while PALMREADER tries to make sense of some of the plot points for Otis. We then share our expectations for the sequel and praise Villeneuve as a filmmaker. Very tight.
After that, we chat about what we’ve watched, listened to, and played. Otis gives his thoughts on Brandon Cronenberg’s “Possessor” and “Infinity Pool” which are both excellent. He also shares that he was surprised by Roku’s Weird Al movie “Weird”. We both also discuss the truly mid-level action-horror vampire flick “Last Voyage Of The Demeter” and praise Vince Staple’s excellent new show on Netflix. Following the theme of mid-level Sunday afternoon movies, PALMREADER talks a bit about Netflix’s Canadian Sci-fi series “Code 8”. Then, he shares his thoughts on Adam Sandler’s recent alien space therapy film “Spaceman”, Guy Ritchie’s promising “The Gentlemen” series, the true crime series “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal”, and the excellent “Masters Of The Air” on Apple TV.
As far as music goes, we both praise ScHoolboy Q’s dynamic new album “Blue Lips”, discuss the merits of Idles’ “TANGK”, and unpack That Mexican OT’s new project “Texas Technician”. PALMREADER suggests a new heavy band called DEALER and the boys share their opinions about the new Knocked Loose single. Otis shares his thoughts on the loud snare and we both praise the guitar work and vocals. As with all Lazy Bird episodes, there are more ramblings and stories to be heard but we kept it relatively short this week. So, kick back and join us for another peek behind the curtain of our minds before we take a weekend off.
We’ll be back later in March! Have a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day if you celebrate.
