Do you want to hear two siblings talk about movies, being smarter than everyone, and why mishandled visual metaphors get clunky? You're in the right place, my friend! This week we are talking about the 1998 film "Pleasantville," a technicolor dream (nightmare?) of cinema. Our second season is dedicated to movies all about - you guessed it - SIBLINGS! It's a thing we have a passing awareness of so hey, why not? We follow two late 90's teenaged siblings as they are sucked into an "idealized" 1950's TV show reality. This film explores a lot of topics: sexuality, personal freedom, emotional expression, and - in a really wild third act turn - racism. Sort of. While this movie might not have fulfilled all our greatest hopes, it's still a pretty fun ride. Subpar sibling vibes though so we have to all deal with that. The art department - sets! costumes! production design! - get all the kudos on this one. We might not have enjoyed the end of this film but we sure did enjoy the ride. We hope you enjoy this episode.
