Jonathan Polk and Will Smith knew in high school that while still wanting to move on to other endeavors, they would be remiss if they couldn't find a way to give back to their community of Wadesboro, NC. Additionally, being that JP (Jonathan Polk) valued education tremendously that was the route they decided to take and it started with a book bag drive.
They were able to provide 80 book bags loaded with supplies for the children to start their school year off on the right foot. But what was the motivation behind it all for JP? Growing up, he was one of those children who wasn't always fortunate enough to have the newest clothes and supplies but because of the generosity of those in his community he was able to make it all the way to East Carolina University.
As time progressed, both men realized that in addition to book bags, they wanted to do more and that is when a scholarship drive was also incorporated. For JP, education isn't the end-all be-all, but can certainly serve as a resource for the youth especially and that is how the Smith and Polk Foundation was born.
Tune in to this episode to find out some of the humbling moments for JP while running a non-profit organization and even hear some of the gems that he dropped for the listeners as well as the children in today's society.
The Smith and Polk Foundation will be hosting a Book Bag and Haircut Drive on Sunday, August 16th in Wadesboro, NC. For more information on how to get involved with this event or to donate to the cause be sure to visit:
