In 2020, Ring of Honor made a surprising decision to resurrect the Pure Title; dormant since 2006 when Bryan Danielson defeated Nigel McGuinness to unify the Pure & World Titles. The unique championship carried a short lineage of names who worked for two years to build the title into a prize worth fighting over: Nigel, Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, John Walters, and Doug Williams.
There is of course the weirdness of AJ Styles and the belt he carried for all of a month that was referred to as the Pure WRESTLING Title and long treated as an entirely separate entity, and scarcely acknowledged as happening, even in the title history that graced the old ROHWrestling.com website.
