First, Rasha Al Aqeedi—a fellow at Al Mesbar Studies and Research Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a primary focus on Iraq, the Gulf, and Islamism, and a native of Mosul, Iraq—returns to the program to discuss the impending liberation of the occupied city. She argues that if no one learns from the mistakes that led to Mosul’s collapse, the city’s future could easily look bleaker than its present.

Then, Richard Gowan, a policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, makes his TAI podcast debut to discuss the deterioration of relations between the United States and Russia. He explains why the West may finally be fed up with the Kremlin’s unreliable partnership on Syria, and what this means for the UN Security Council, whose presidency has just rotated into Russian hands.
