Episode 14: Books About Diversity, Inclusion, and Antiracism

Listen Later

As a family, we've been talking a lot about what is happening in our world today. We've been talking about racism and the unfair and terrible things that happen to people of color. One of the ways we are learning about this is by reading books about diversity, inclusion, and antiracism. Because a lot of these books seem to be out of stock in bookstores, we thought it would be especially important to read and share these books with you. We hope that they will help spark meaningful conversations in your families as well. Today, we'll be reading:

  • How To Be a Lion by Ed Vere
  • Separate Is Never Equal by Duncan Tonatiuh
  • The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson
  • Instead of our joke of the day, we share how our family is giving back. We made donations to several charities, including:

NAACP's Legal and Educational Fund - To help protect voters across the nation and advance the cause of racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

Color of Change - The largest online racial justice organization in the country, and help us fight to end the war on Black people in our country.

Equal Justice Initiative - Committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States and challenging racial and economic injustice

DonorsChoose - Donate to classroom projects to teach students through antiracist readings (like the books we read on today's episode!)
