Sisterhood: Connecting Through Meaningful Conversations

Episode 14: Grounding Practice For Calming Your Nervous System & Coming Back To The Present Moment

Listen Later

Imagine that your sympathetic nervous system acts as though it is literally sympathetic to your needs and emotional state. Sort of like the way you worry over your loved ones safety. When you get triggered, and the stress, or anxiety or whatever emotion you are feeling starts to gain momentum, it turns on the alarm bells because it wants to protect you. When this happens, you want to fight, flight or freeze so you can get yourself to safety. So often though, we are not actually in real danger. To support yourself mentally and emotionally when you are either being triggered by the past or stressing about a future worry, this practice is a wonderful tool to help you calm your nervous system and turn down the alarm bells so that you can reconnect yourself back to the present moment.
