This week we will turn back the clock 81 years to 1941 for Lux Radio Theater. I feel like we need a bit of a break this week after what we have listened to lately. We’ve been to creepy castles, dealt with a sad story of a rogue outlaw, and ended last week with a devastating tale of pure anxiety. Therefore, today we will switch to another side of another side of old time radio, with dramatic romances.
Today we will hear from the Lux Radio Theater which aired on and off from 1934-1955 and all performances were done in front of live audiences. Famed studio executive and director Cecil B. DeMille took over as host eventually, and the show featured just about every famous actor at that time. Not just hollywood and broadway actors were brought in though, stars of the show Fibber McGee and Molly appeared on the show, Phil Harris and Alice Faye were a married couple who appeared on the show and eventually had their own soap style radio show.
On this episode we hear an adaptation of the film Shop Around the Corner starring Don Amece and Claudette Colbert. A Christmas themed episode about love, workplace relationships, and singing cigarette boxes? Well I do not want to give too much away. So let's sit back, and actually relax this time as we turn back the clock 81 years to June 23rd, 1941, and Lux Radio Theater’s Shop Around The Corner.
