Listen Later

In this episode, Alan and Michelle continue their conversation about the "light within the shadows," our topic for the month of May 2023. They talk about how fear keeps us from examining aspects of our inner selves that we may be uncomfortable acknowledging or facing.

Some Points Discussed During Podcast:

  • Darkness as a metaphor for inner shadows
  • What are shadows?
  • Some of the "dark places" we tend to avoid:
    • Trauma
    • Repressed emotions
    • Negative Beliefs
    • Regrets
    • Denial of harmful behavior and addictions
    • Prejudices and Biases
  • Many shadows from early childhood experiences
  • Avoiding those space from fear of chaos, it can come out sideways.
  • Develop reverence for the mystery - turn fear into reverence
  • A dark space can be a safe place! There may be part of us that are needing that safety…waiting to be explored…
  • Our eyes adjust to dark - as we explore our inner vision will "see more clearly"

“Sitting in the shadow we may not really believe that there is any sunshine. But the sun would be there all the time ... It is there but we must awaken to it.” Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, (p. 411).
