Today's episode is by request from my friend Vix, who asks:

"As someone who has been creating their own one-woman show, how do you show your work-in-progress if you’ve only got one act or partial act?  I’m specifically referring to residencies that ask for works to be shown as part of their program (ex. “one night performance open to the public to show WIP,” “two nights of shows that the venue will help promote,” etc.). Do I just put on my 4-5 min aerial piece and then talk everyone to go home? What if I intend to create a much longer show (be it one person or multiple people), but I just haven’t gotten that far in the process? I love the idea of a WIP showing but is this what these residencies are really asking for?"

Let's talk about it!

  • The "danger" of coming to an artist residency from the context of a gig worker, and how that can derail your experience during the residency by focusing solely on the end-of-residency showing
  • How does your context influence how you view the opportunity to share a WIP? 5:11
  • How I totally forgot this in real life 7:00
  • IF YOU LISTEN TO NOTHING ELSE IN THIS EPISODE, LISTEN TO THIS 8:40
  • How it COULD get sticky 11:00
  • For further listening about artist residencies, please see Episode 31:  Artist Residencies, wth is that? and Episode 37:  Artist Residencies for Aerialists
