Now that Trump has agreed to an orderly transfer of power and the vote has proceeded, we have heard a collective sigh of relief around the world. Republican leaders who now, in the 11th hour, finally stand up to Trump, are receiving accolades for their reasonableness. Already, what was a terrifying-yet-pathetic coup attempt has become a retrospective joke. Ha-coup-na matata! No worries!

But the conflict between the neoliberal establishment vs Trumpian fascism is a battle over whiteness—two competing visions of functional white supremacy. Instead of being content that the neoliberals have seemingly won the day, we need to press for justice. For too long we, white people in particular, have been confused about who the enemy is. It isn't black and brown folks. Not immigrants. Nor is it centered predominantly on Trumpian neo-fascism. The enemy is the capitalist, colonialist system that dominates all life, oppressing us all.
