Why is that Itaiian sandwich called a sub?
Maybe Miss Cornwall was right after all?
She announced one day (back in 1948) I was in the sixth grade….
It was her plan, “to teach us to write The Kings English…”…
It wasn’t true of course. At that time there was no society on Earth with more Language/Class divisions than the UK, not counting the various dialects, Scotch, Welsh & Irish.
This is different from the book Miss Cornwall was teaching from, but the revised 1931 edition The Kings English, by Fowler,
