Today I am sticking with my summer theme this year, which has been clubby music, a soundtrack for relaxation and recreation in the summer season. It feels weird to me to see my interest in clubby sounds experiencing a revival,,, go back about 15 years and I had sworn off club music. I realized I was spending a good portion of my record buying budget on music just for my DJ sets. I was shopping for my audience, not for myself… I was passing up records that would have been lasting treasures in my personal collection just so I could keep up a steady cadence of new material in my DJ crates. Now, unexpectedly, I’m craving that music I had set aside all those years ago. I’m not really sure how to explain this… maybe I need a lift from the steady drumbeat of bad news over the past few months. Maybe the cabin fever of the Covid era has rekindled warm feelings about joining a crowd on a dance floor. Whatever the reason, my club music renaissance is a good thing for all fans of dance and lounge groove throughout the summer season this year. Today I’ll be playing through some of the new tracks I’ve brought in this summer… this is the music I have in heavy rotation on my own earbuds. It’s a summer edition of tropical clubby sounds on today’s episode of Tropicology.
