William (Bill) Binney is a former NSA crypto-mathematician  A 36-year NSA veteran, William Binney resigned from the agency and became a whistleblower after discovering that elements of a data-monitoring program he had helped develop -- nicknamed ThinThread -- were being used to spy on Americans. Binney left the NSA in 2001, after the Stellar Wind program started using his technology to spy on civilians. Then, in 2005, the New York Times published an article that exposed Stellar Wind as a warrantless eavesdropping program. Somebody in the US Government thought there was a connection, and the FBI carried out an armed raid on Binney’s home. Binney has since made many high-profile appearances in which he shares his NSA experiences.
