As summer comes to an end and the new school year begins, anxiety and stress tend to be on the rise. Parents worry about their kids adjusting to the new year's changes and feel the need to control their child's experience. We worry about them making friends, getting good grades, or getting "good teachers". This second-hand stress doesn't help our children. It compounds the problems our children could be experiencing. Our children experience stress first-hand since they are in the throes of change.
We can let go of trying to micro-manage or control their experience and embrace the change and support our children in the process. We discuss how we can step back and learn to manage our own emotions so we're able to help our children work through these big changes more effectively.
