In past years, I have reminded you that what we call the Longest Day is simply a moment in time — when the sun, on its northward journey, touches the Tropic of Cancer.

At Edwards Air Force Base, we were transferred to a charter aircraft, a DC-7C four-engine. Underneath the pilot's window, I could read “Flagship American….” It was a seasoned vessel. The venerable DC7C entered regular service in 1953 with American Airlines until 1958.
What made the DC7C so efficient as a commercial carrier was four radial engines. More powerful and compact than the inline piston engines.
