Hi everyone, welcome to Episode #16 with Mark Valencia (husband, father, writer, gardener, and YouTuber extraordinaire) from SelfSufficientMe. I have been following Mark’s work for a number of years now and am a big fan, so when we reached out and were invited to meet with him and have a chat at Self Sufficient Me HQ, there was no way I was going to refuse. Mark’s passion for encouraging others to get more proactive in their own lives is nothing short of inspiring and as he says, “You don’t have to be self-sufficient in everything, just be self-sufficient in something.”

Mark Valencia retired from the Australian Army in 2008 after 21 years of service and is married with two children (boys). He has always been passionate about self-sufficiency (even as a child) and he is now enjoying the opportunity to communicate this passion through his Blog and YouTube Channel. Self Sufficient Me has grown over the years and is reaching and inspiring millions around the globe through the various social media channels teaching about self-sustainment by growing fruit and vegetables and keeping animals such as chickens for food. It’s also about lifestyle and self-fulfilment by looking after our health (physical/mental) through exercise and “slowing life down a little.”
