Types of Sleep Apnea:
Central Sleep Apnea – less common
The brain does not always signal the body to breath and as a result one stops breathing during sleep for a period of time.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea- most Common
This occurs due to the tongue, large tonsils or tissue in the back of the throat blocking the airway, which causes one to stop breathing during until they gasp to start breathing again.
Risk Factors for Obstructive Sleep Apnea:
-Male
-Overweight
-Large tonsils
-Large neck size (17 inches for men and 16 inches for women)
Symptoms:
-Sleepiness during the day
-Morning headaches
-Loud snoring
-Gasping or choking during sleep
-Forgetfulness
-Lack of energy
Medical Problems if Not Treated:
-Stroke
-Congestive Heart Failure
-Irregular Heart Beat
-Depression
-Headaches
-High Blood Pressure

-Weight Loss
-Avoid Alcohol
-Avoid sleeping on your back
-CPAP machine: Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
