<p>Just our dedicated neighbors in attendance tonight, but it is a deluge outside with a tornado warning, after all. The melody on first piece was reminding me of something, but I couldn't tell what it was while I was playing it, so I just kept gnawing on it. Listening back, I can tell it was "People Will Say We're in Love". We went to concert last night at our (same) neighbors house where we heard "I Could Have Danced All Night", and sure enough it found its way into a piece tonight. The evening ended with some romantic, passionate thing. It briefly felt like a piano concerto! Enjoy.</p>

Welcome to Piano Meditations Podcast by Blake Rowe. For the past eight years (with occasional breaks), Wednesday nights have been devoted to creating freely improvised music for about 45 minutes. Known melodies may come to mind and may be explored, but the pieces are primarily “spontaneously composed”. The music tends to follow an arc from introspective to energetic and back again. The first few notes become a motif to be explored; sometimes a piece is more structured and and other times more free form.
After more than 300 episodes, Piano Meditations will be ending soon. Blake is embarking on an open-ended road trip around the USA, and although he won’t be able to play his beloved Steinway, he did fit most of his electronic music studio into his camper van!
