In today's episode, Amanda shares one of her favorite exercises of all time and it is all based on the concept of an improv combination. This combination though has a specific structure to it to help the dancers stay in sequence and that structure is, the alphabet! There are SO many ways that you can use this exercise and endless benefits to doing this activity in any style of dance class.
Guidelines for the dancers include . . .
1.) Making choices in space—they decide where to start, where to go, where to take things
2.) Dancers decide when to start and finish
3.) Dancers decide how long they spend in a letter
4.) Dancers decide how they transition between letters
5.) In this exercise, we never dance to the same song twice
There are so many ways to run this exercise . . .
1.) Can use this structure with action words, technical dance vocabulary, holiday inspiration, and more!
2.) Musically can have one genre of focus, multiple genres of focus, or music that relates to the time of year you are in.
3.) Can start at different point in the alphabet for your list of movements, maybe try starting at letter L, versus letter A.
