In Episode 17 of “The Belonging Place” Kylee Shields sits down with her friend Chelsie Hightower and they talk about mental health, dance, somatic and physiology, and so much more.
Chelsie opens up about the challenges that come with being grateful for incredible opportunities and the opportunity costs associated. Chelsie is smart, kind, grounded, and passionate about mentoring young dancers and providing them with tools that will help them live healthy lives and achieve elite success
ABOUT OUR GUEST: Chelsie Hightower
Chelsie Hightower is a Nationally recognized professional dancer from Orem, Utah. She was a Fan Favorite, All-Star and Choreographer on FOX’s hit TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance.” Additional recognition came to Chelsie when two of her and her partner’s performances were nominated for Emmy awards. She then traveled the U.S. in a national arena tour with that season’s top ten finalists.
Soon after, Chelsie made her debut as a professional dancer on ABC’s, Dancing With The Stars where she worked for the next 8 seasons. Her partners have ranged from Olympic athletes to world-renowned entertainers. She was nominated for an Emmy award for a dance she choreographed with fellow cast mate Derek Hough. She has choreographed or assisted in choreographing performances for stars such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Whitney Houston, John Legend, Jewel, The Goo Goo Dolls, Martina McBride, and The Bee Gee’s.
In her competitive career, she represented the United States at the Jr British Open Championships and consistently placed in the top 3 in the country. She was trained by some of the world’s top coaches such as Shirley Ballas, Katusha Demidova, Jonathan Wilkins, Vibeka Taus, Louis Van Amstel, Paul Green, Karina Smirnoff, to name a few.
Chelsie has been on the cover of several national fitness and dance magazines as well as being the face of Reebok's dance line. She has toured the country for 3 years with Revive Dance Convention teaching ballroom to hundreds of dancers ranging anywhere from beginners to advanced skill levels. Chelsie’s talent continues to be enjoyed as she still performs for audiences around the country.
With a desire to share what she has learned through her experiences and connections in the dance world, Chelsie started, “Dance Elevated” summer camps in 2016. In 2020, she created “Inside Out”, a dancewear company encouraging the next generation to navigate the dance industry in a healthy and positive way.
Chelsie also found time in her busy schedule to host Fox’s local TV show, “The Place” from 2018-2019 and entered the “stage acting” arena playing Tina Sparkle in the US Premiere of Baz Lurmen’s, “Strictly Ballroom” in 2019. She has also found a passion for acting and played the leading role of Olivia on Lifetime movie ‘Stalked in Paradise’ and supporting roles in Hallmark’s in Enchanted Christmas and Emma. Chelsie is passionate about sharing her love of dance and helping the next generation secede in dance in a healthy way.
