Calvinism and Predestination. Can guys and girls be best friends? What should I look for in a mentor?

(the first question was cut off it read: "I was wondering if you've ever heard of calvinism? That has this idea supposedly supported by scripture in romans that God predestines people to be saved, like he "elects" some but some but not all. Is this even true? From young age even today i hear Christ died for all but calvinism disagrees & there are verses that go against it aswell. It's confusing and hard to accept."
