Ancient World

Episode 17 - The History of Rome, and Emperor Justinian. Canto VI.

Listen Later

In the episode we hear the full overview of Rome's history from the mythological origins with Aeneas, through the Seven Kingdoms, the Republic and Empire, to the new Holy Roman Empire and Charlemagne in 800 AD.

The last part of the Canto is also in some ways a more personal account of Dante's life in exile, told through the history of Romeo - a minister for the Count of Provence in the early 12 hundreds.

The Sphere of Mercury is home for the souls who were too concerned about their earthly fame and glory, and Dante is thereby including himself in this category!

Thanks for listening,
and enjoy!
