Episode 17: The Problem with 'No Problem' with Rev. Joe Farrell, OSA

Listen Later

Karen and Mary welcome Mary's dear friend, Joe Farrell the priest. Father Joe Farrell and Mary met when they were in high school and have been friends for over forty years. And now, Joe holds the global role of Vicar General of the Order of St. Augustine, the second highest office in the Augustinian order serving over 50 countries throughout the world. Fr. Joe joins the podcast from his residence in Rome, Italy for a conversation about communicating kindly with two simple words - "you're welcome".

Here are the takeaways:

  1. When people thank you, try saying you’re welcome instead of no problem. Don’t minimize someone’s gratitude.
  2. You’re welcome in Italian and in French translates to I pray. It’s so much deeper than responding no problem.
  3. Don’t take another’s pleasure away from them by refusing their kind gesture or gift.
  4. Say thank you. Even if it’s thanking for someone doing their job.
  5. And be sure to check out Mary and Karen's Instagram posts promoting this episode @mary.feldman and @mommccormick. You’ll see the picture that Karen talks about in this episode of her with Joe at Mary's wedding in 1996. Good times.
