In the state of Karnataka, the city of Bangalore is a commissionerate which was set up in 1963 and at present, there are 111 police stations and 44 traffic police stations operating under the commissioner of police. He is head of the police force that guards Bangalore city. The commissioner of police is assisted by four additional commissioners of police who are in turn assisted by twelve deputy commissioners of police. In addition, several joint commissioners of police and deputy commissioners of police from specialized units report directly to the commissioner.
