You’re probably familiar with famous elements of the play Cyrano de Bergerac, or the film Roxanne. Nervous losers like Will and Jimmy are too scared to talk to girls without another male presence, so they secretly deploy methods that allow them to just be vessels between said girl and their partner who’s actually doing the talking, feeding them lines. This plot device works brilliantly in real life, turns out, especially when the person you’re trying to impress is yourself, and you’re feeding lines to your partner right in front of you, who’s speaking to you.
