Trauma Bonded

Episode 18: Childhood, Interrupted

Listen Later

In this episode of Trauma Bonded, I sit down with my dear friend Lindsay to talk about what it means to grow up before you’re ready.

Lindsay shares her story of a childhood shaped by parental separation, instability, and witnessing abuse- and how those early experiences quietly followed her into adulthood. Together, we explore how trauma lives in the body, how it shapes our understanding of safety, and the patterns we often don’t recognize until much later.

We also reflect on how many of our closest connections are formed not by circumstance, but by recognition- how shared nervous system experiences can create instant understanding. Without realizing it at the time, many of the relationships we hold most tightly were built through survival, familiarity, and unspoken alignment.

This conversation isn’t about graphic details or reliving the past. It’s about naming what was never explained, understanding how survival shaped us, and recognizing that healing doesn’t require forgetting- only awareness and choice.

We talk about the shift from living on alert to choosing something different - how healing creates boundaries, clarity, and self-trust.

If you grew up feeling like you had to be strong too soon, this episode is for you.
