Who are you? What is your identity? We can use many descriptors to tell others about our self, but do those classifications ever really get to the essence of our uniqueness? Check out these three simple steps to answering the questions, "who am I."
Scripture Gem: " I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." ~ Psalm 139:14
This passage in Psalm 139:14 holds wisdom as simple as ABC on how to understand your identity in Christ. This scripture gem teaches us to A. cast, B. admire, and C. chose is how we live confidently in the character and nature of who God created us to be in the world.
A. Cast
The beginning of understanding your identity is casting away everything you designed, desired, and created for your own life. Putting aside your old identity practically looks like repenting for choosing your own design for your life over God's design. Then you must come out of agreement with your desires for your life, and determine to lay down your vision for your life so that you can pick up God's vision for your life.
Reflection: How have I answered the question who am I in the past?
Everyday Wisdom: So, every moment I chose to: CAST my eyes to God to understand my identity.
B. Admire
At the foundation of God's identity is the beginning of our identity. When we want to know more about who we were uniquely created to be, we must read our Bible and learn more about the nature and character of God. Being made in God's image means everything we love about God is who we have the potential to be in the earth.
Reflection: What are the things I admire about God? What do these things say about who I am? How have those things been displayed in my life in the past?
Everyday Wisdom: So, every day I: ADMIRE more of God.
C. Chose
Walking confidently in our identity means choosing to imitate Christ. The more we read our Bible, we decide every day to walk and talk like Christ.
Reflection: What can I do to remind myself to obey God?
Everyday Wisdom: So, every day I: CHOSE to imitate Christ!
Put these steps into practice every day, and you will see the fullness of your identity as a child of God fully manifest!
