Episode 18: Your Real Issue with Nepotism (+ The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)

Listen Later

hello hello! if you're new here, hi! my name is genesis. and if you're not, hello old friend!

today, i am talking about nepotism. it's a really passionate topic of discussion lately and I'm honestly befuddled as to why. regardless, it's a topic that i've been thinking about for a while now, especially since enduring some financial trauma. i think it's really easy to think of nepotism as bad and "self-made" as good or vice versa. i think it's really easy to think about this as a right or wrong issue, but it's a fully gray area. and i think it’s really easy to think about it as only beneficial when that’s not always the case. everyone's experience (or non-experience) with nepotism is different, but it's all ultimately about money. i think the shame around money leads to the lack of transparency around it and why it can, most of the time, be a really taboo topic. i'm throwing my hat into the analysis ring. this week, i'm also talking about nepotism through a book I just finished: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I briefly state my review, but it also prompts some conversation about the topic of nepotism in regards to Hollywood and the entertainment industry (which seems to be at the center of the discourse).

thank you for listening :) i'm happy you're here and i'm really grateful to be here too!
