Daniel and his friends are tested in extraordinary ways. They survive a fiery furnace and a lion’s den. We should learn that in times of trial and persecution our attitude should reflect that of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: “But even if [God] does not [deliver us from this furnace], we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (Daniel 3:18). Without question, these are some of the most courageous words ever spoken.
