Episode 185: T20 mercenaries, or pruning the dead wood to strengthen international cricket?

On today's edition of The Almanack Report, the cricket world today has had a major conniption with the announcement that Trent Boult has been release from his central contract with New Zealand, essentially so he can tour the world and play in all of the T20 domestic competitions that now exist, that also offer more money than he could earn by remaining a New Zealand only cricketer. The immediate fear that has been plastered over the airwaves is that it is the beginning of the end for cricket as we know it, and that all the big stars will follow suit. Well, this isn't LIV Golf so you shouldn't be overly concerned about that.
But rather than panic, surely this move can be seen in a different light. That instead of being the end of Test cricket and the sliding of the importance of international cricket, it could actually herald a new era of international cricket, by pruning away the dead wood, and allowing new buds to flourish and bloom to take their place. Rather than killing cricket, could this movement instead actually reinvigorate it?
