Brett Miller is a retired Army officer and a management consultant by training.
He is passionate about helping veterans and has been involved with the veteran community since 2006.
He worked on a project to help veterans exposed to toxins in the environment and spent seven years putting together programs that culminated in a peer-reviewed study published in the Military Science Journal.
He was also part of a founding board established by the VA in 2015 called the Community Veterans Engagement, whose job is to improve outcomes for veterans.
Brett is on the board in Pinellas County, Florida, which was one of the first 10 in the United States. The board assembles community leaders from each of the areas that the VA operates in, with the aim of improving outcomes for veterans.
They focus on building collaborations in the community, with one of their most successful partnerships being between the VA and Feeding Tampa Bay, a chapter of Feeding America, to provide food to food-insecure families. About half of the program's participants leave the program because they now learn how to shop, eat, and take better care of themselves.
