How often do we take the time to stop and think about where the skills training and the dancing that we are doing in our classes could lead our students in their futures?
In today’s episode, Amanda dives into Part 2 of a two-part series about introducing Careers in Dance with our dancers. One of the biggest gaps Amanda found in her education and support growing up in the public school system was having people understand her love and desire for Dance to be a part of her future. She is so grateful to have had the help and support of her mentors and teachers so that she could make the best decisions for her future. But, sometimes, that is not always the case. And also, if students don’t ask us, how would we even know if they were needing help or guidance?
There is room in our classes to teach the skills and content that we are needing but also to stop and have this conversation about ways dance might be seen outside of these walls. You may have students openly interested in continuing dance in their future, but you also may have those who are unsure. This discussion can help them to gain some clarity and see the many outlets/avenues that dance could be available to them in their future.
Part 2 discusses:
*Choreography and the importance of student choreography
*Teaching and ways to help your dancers find their teaching voice
