After two months of hemming, hawing, and delaying, the Manatee County commissioners did it: WSLR reporter Dania Hefley was there yesterday when the seven voted unanimously to give a piece of county-owned land to a non-profit, to build an affordable-housing complex for veterans. Then: Pat Neal asked, the City of Venice complied at a meeting yesterday. WSLR News reporter Ramon Lopez is following a conflict in Venice that pits the big developer against homeowners in neighborhoods Neal's company had built. Then: We continue to follow Sarasota County commissioner Mike Moran's efforts to overhaul the way the county funds non-profits that provide key social services to thousands of families. Yesterday, after an outcry over abandoning childcare, he agreed to make changes to his changes. Then: A developer wants to build a subdivision right next to the Celery Fields nature preserve, and resistance is forming. The Community News Collaborative's Jim De La reports about yet another conflict over construction in east Sarasota County. Next: The war in Israel and Gaza makes local ripples.
