In this episode, I talk about what I have done in times past when customers have asked about cleaning out French drains, and I make the following points:

• The purpose of French drains is to carry the gutter water far away from the house
• Many older systems no longer function correctly
• Whenever possible, I have recommended that people bring their drainage system above ground
