Episode 193 - Alita: Battle Angel (1:28:48)

Listen Later

We’re here to talk about “Alita: Battle Angel” that has some interesting questions about sentience and self-ownership among other fun angles. Our guest is Alex who had joined us in the past for the musical rendition of “Les Miserables” and this is a suggestion on his part.
Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.
Join us next week as we head back to the jungle to take on a Kubrick classic, “Full Metal Jacket” with our film connoisseur friend, Jon Reed who was on most recently for another brilliant war film, “Apocalypse Now”.

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.
Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.
We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.
The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.
We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.
