Education Considered

Episode 2: Considering & Rethinking Rubrics

Listen Later

Rubrics are a staple of nearly every classroom environment, but are they the best tool to capture student learning, create a mindset around the opportunity for growth, and act as a tool that promotes rich discussion about student learning?  In this episode of Education Considered we will rethink rubrics by exploring the concept of Visual Rubrics.  Visual Rubrics are an approach to visualizing student growth over time that I developed with nothing more than a Google Sheet.  With the values of growth, opportunity, and discussion embedded into the design of Visual Rubrics, they provide an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about student learning that move beyond a number on a traditional linear rubric.  Educator Emily Huff also joins me on this episode in a few excerpts from an in depth conversation we had about the impact of Visual Rubrics in her high school language classes.
