Ageism is discrimination towards someone due to their age. In our day to day living, there are plenty of examples but are we paying attention to these ageist imageries, wordings, or gestures? Do you think some jokes are just light hearted jokes or are they actually ageist? Think critically! To combat ageism, we need to be able to identify it first. Let’s start with one step at a time and pay attention to our surroundings. Let’s practice recognition first. Next, ask ourselves why is it ageist? Lastly, what would you do to change it? Note: Ageism is a ism that we all may experience and it’s important that we create an environment that’s age friendly!
