Episode 2 - The four basic rules of gun safety
In this episode we go over the four basic rules of gun safety. It's almost a guarantee that if you follow these four basic rules you will never have to worry about accidentally hurting somebody with you gun. Additionally, if everybody followed these rules we could almost guarantee that accidents involving guns would be practically eliminated.
So what are the four basic rules of gun safety?
1) Assume that every gun you come across is loaded until you have personally cleared it. That means that even if you clear your firearm, leave the room for a second and come back to your firearm - CLEAR IT AGAIN!
2) Never, ever point your gun at something that you are not ready and willing to destroy. It's simple. Do you want to shoot your best friend? No, then don't point your gun at them. Do you want to shoot that target at the range? Yes, then go ahead point your gun at it. This seems simple, but takes self awareness.
3) It's our namesake. Trigger Discipline! This is another one that will take some practice, but is fairly simple. DO NOT put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to take your shot. It's been ingrained into our heads that our finger belongs on the trigger when picking up a gun, unfortunately this is a good way to shoot the floor, ceiling, yourself or worse somebody else.
4) Be aware of your surroundings before you shoot. Be aware of whats behind what your shooting and what's to your sides. Would you shoot at a target if your friend was standing behind it? Of course not. Would you shoot at a target if somebody was running from the side towards your target? Of course not. Before you take your shot, make sure every thing around you is clear.
