On this day in 1774, the First Continental Parliament met in Philadelphia. NO, IT DIDN'T! But do you know WHY it's called "congress" and not "parliament?" You're fixing to find out! Emmerich de Vattel's Law of Nations was carried around by every member of the Continental Congress, according to Benjamin Franklin. Why? Why would guys from one nation need a book about international law? Hmmmm. What does Emmerich de Vattel have to do with calling it Congress and not Parliament? EVERYTHING!
