The field of psychology has changed quite a bit since the days of Freud and psychoanalysis. In fact, psychotherapy has since evolved into the preferred solution for many modern-day challenges –such as loneliness, stress, depression and more.
Many folks who have been in therapy have experienced what we would call “talk therapy” or CBT which is probably still the one of the most common approaches to helping people with problems and mental health concerns. But other techniques or modalities have made their way onto the scene as well, as we continue to learn more about the brain and the interplay of our thoughts, emotions and actions as related to our past experiences. Especially the traumatic ones. One of these approaches is called EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. It sounds a little technical but it is proving to be very, very effective.
