On December 8, 1980, Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon, the Beatles singer/songwriter/drummer with a .38-caliber handgun. He shot five times but only hit Lennon in the back four times. Hours earlier, he had met Lennon and asked him to autograph a copy of the album “Double Fantasy,” which he recorded with his wife Yoko Ono.
