2017 has been a remarkable year for the United States, both politically and financially. Beginning with Donald Trump’s inauguration, it’s been a year of Congressional gridlock, a high-stakes political investigation, and unprecedented actions – and tweets – from a U.S. President. Yet through it all, the markets have continued their upward charge. The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached the 24,000 mark for the first time on November 30 – and it’s up more than 20% since January 1, 2017. The current bull market (typically defined by a continuous rise in stock prices without being interrupted by a 20% decline) is now over eight and a half years old – one of the longest in history.
