In this episode Alan’s mom joins us to review Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella. We talk about how this Cinderella has more spunk than her Disney princess friends and for some reason we start to sing “The Yellow Rose of Texas”.

  • Walt Disney’s animated Cinderella (1950) came out between Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and Sleeping Beauty (1959)
  • According to Wikipedia, “The New Deal was a series of domestic programs enacted in the United States between 1933 and 1938, and a few that came later.”
  • Brandy starred in a made-for-TV version of Cinderella (1997) based on the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical
  • This version stars Lily James as Cinderella and Richard Madden as Prince Charming. James is best known as Lady Rose MacClare on Downton Abbey (2010–) and Madden plays Robb Stark on Game of Thrones (2011–)
  • Alan has a small part on Sirens (2014–) Season 1, Episode 7 “Till Jeff Do Us Part”
  • In order to pass the Bechdel test a film must have at least two women in it who talk to each other about something besides a man
