Number 1 - Your smartphone is the most important device in people's lives and this is how people see the world, so make your content mobile-friendly, small clips that people can take in and enjoy of your band, be sure to do lots of testing whether it's video diaries or live band stuff, this is key.
Number 2 - social media is everything, but choose your platform wisely don't just put content on everything build a strategy around the platforms that you feel will help your band, whether it's six-second vine videos or hour-long live videos on YouTube you choose, you build a strategy
Number 3 - ENGAGE don't just say cheers actually bring out conversation, build a relationship that's what social media is for, to build relationships, so when you go on tour or you release records, your fans are involved in your journey.
